The first time we met was in 1993. After passing her biology examination, Nicole embarked on a practical training at Manfred Kage’s “Institute for Science Photography” during the same year. Oliver was already there, having started a practical training course in 1986. Nicole wanted to improve her knowledge of micro- and macrophotography. Oliver, being an experienced photographer already, wanted to know everything about the new, exciting world of science photography.
After a while it became quite obvious that we wanted to share both our work and our lives – and the “Eye of Science” was born. We shared our first experience of MacIntosh computers and digital imaging. Since 1997 we have both been working full-time in our small but first-rate company.
Meanwhile we publish one “story out of |

the microcosmos” in the well-known GEO magazine nearly once a year. Our pictures are published in educational and scientific books an the Science and Nature magazines are our regular customers.
In 1998, 2000 and 2001 we won the World Press Photo Award in the categories “Nature and Environment” (2nd place) and “Science and Technology” (3rd place). During the latter year LIFE Magazine granted us the “Alfred Eisenstaedt Award”. But the outstanding event was our being honoured with the Lennart Nilsson Award in 2002. In 2003 we staged our first exhibitions with large-sized photographies all over Germany.
In October 2002 we published the book “Fantastische Welt des Unsichtbaren” in cooperation with GEO magazine (The English version will be available in 2004). Our latest project is a children’s version of this book published during the autumn of 2003. |
